concorde_jetA Dubai consortium is bidding to turn one of British Airways’s seven remaining Concorde supersonic jets into a tourist attraction, a report said Wednesday, while BA said it was mulling its options.The Times said that if the jet — which reached supersonic speeds and halved the total flight time from London to New York — were to be shipped to the Middle East, its wings would have to be clipped off to fit on a ship.

Gulf airlines challenge Lufthansa April 6, 2009

gulfairAccording to a Gulf News report, Lufthansa wants the German government to block the expansion of Emirates into Germany. ThierryAntinori, Lufthansa’s Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales, was reported saying that there was an “imbalance” in competition because his airline could only have “limited” market access because of the UAE’s smaller size while Gulf airlines can serve several German routes.

Emirates pilots quit after runway tail-scrape April 4, 2009

emirates_a380The two Emirates airline pilots involved in last month’s emergency landing at Melbourne Airport have resigned.Emirates flight EK407 to Dubai was forced to return to Melbourne Airport and make an emergency landing on March 21 after the Airbus A340’s tail scraped the runway during take-off.The flight, with 224 passengers on board, was forced to dump fuel before attempting to land. The plane landed without incident and no passengers were injured.
